A visit to Adelaide

A couple of weeks ago I visited family and friends back home in Adelaide. It was just a short visit, but I managed to see loads of people.

It started with a lunch with Granny and Kate at the Whistlestop Cafe.

Then tea at Kate's for a visit with Tuppy.

In the afternoon I visited with a couple of friends who were in the neighbourhood. I saw Corri's new house and Halena's new baby.

Of course, I hung out with Mum and Dad and saw the kitty cats and the garden.

And before I knew it I was back in the airport lounge bidding farewell to Mum and Dad.

Why I've been so busy

I've been pretty busy lately. I'm hoping to write more on what I've been up to soon, but my modem at home has broken.

One thing that I have been doing is organising a massive celebration to commemorate the division that I've been a part of that has recently ceased to exist. As a part of this celebration, some workmates and I got together to make a video clip as a surprise for the lab heads. Check it out. The quality of the video is awesome, but I look really bad in it. It's all part of the fun though.

Other things that have been happening

I bought a kindle, which is great for reading on the tram! I can't praise it highly enough. For more info, check out the amazon.com website.

Our little seedlings haven't fared too well - our fault no doubt because we have no idea what we're doing. Some of them seem to be doing okay. They've now been planted out in bigger pots on the balcony. Some of them have started growing proper leaves.

The silverbeet and the leeks are looking really good though. Perhaps I should stick with buying seedlings rather than seeds!

We've been able to tick one more thing off the list of things to do around the house - we've had a retractable fly screen installed in the french doors in our bedroom. Now we can leave the doors open for the evaporative air conditioning and we don't get mozzies or flies inside.

Visiting Friends

I've had a couple of trips out to visit friends and their families lately.

Last Sunday I drove south for an hour (yes, I drove!) to visit Jo and her baby boy, Nye. Jo and I studied together at Adelaide Uni and she now lives in Sydney, so it was great to catch up with her and meet Nye for the first time.

Nye's a cute little smiley baby and even though he hadn't been sleeping, he wasn't grizzly at all and when I got to have a cuddle, he was very giggly and alert. Unfortunately there were no grins for the camera.

EDIT: Jo sent me these photos of Nye and me. Now you can see him smiling (and me pulling silly faces to make him giggle).

On Australia Day, in 2008, baby Giorgia entered the world. So this year on Australia Day, we celebrated her 3rd birthday. There were party hats and of course a cake with three candles.
